Making your own perfect matcha latte at home is easier than you think!
Ingredients:
-
1 teaspoon of matcha powder (about 4 grams)
-
200ml (about ¾ cup + 2 tablespoons) of milk of your choice
-
40ml (about 2.5 tablespoons) of warm water
-
Sugar or simple syrup to taste
Steps:
-
Sift matcha powder into matcha bowl to remove clumps – this will make for a smoother latte.
-
Heat milk on stove, with a milk frother, or for the creamiest latte, use a milk steamer. The ideal temperature is around 160 degrees – warm but not boiling. You never want to use boiling milk or water with matcha – boiling water will bring out a more bitter taste profile.
-
Warm up the water and pour over the matcha powder, then whisk to blend until the matcha powder is fully incorporated and there are no clumps. We recommend using a traditional bamboo whisk (chasen), especially if using a ceramic matcha bowl (the bamboo is gentler and won’t damage the ceramic).
-
Once the matcha powder and water are fully mixed, pour the warm/ steamed milk into the bowl.
-
If you prefer a sweetened matcha latte, stir in sugar to taste. We recommend starting with a teaspoon of sugar or simple syrup and adding little by little until you find just the right level of sweetness for your taste.
Enjoy!
